Overview
The Social Media Sharing feature lets you add Share on Twitter, Facebook Like, and Pinterest Pin It options to your store's product pages. Enabling this feature allows your customers to easily spread the word about your products to their social media networks. This boost to your marketing efforts helps you reach a wider audience, and can help to generate more quality traffic for your store.
The Social Media Sharing feature is currently supported for Editor 3.0 templates. If you don't know which template version you're using, you can check your template version. An RTML operator is available for custom templates. Learn how to enable Social Media Sharing using the RTML operator.
Once you've enabled the Social Media Sharing feature and published your store, a new module containing icons for Share on Twitter, Facebook Like, and Pinterest Pin It (if enabled separately from Twitter and Facebook options) will be displayed on your store's product pages:
Sharing on Twitter
Clicking Share on Twitter allows a customer to share information about your products with their Twitter followers. Once they've clicked the icon and have signed into their Twitter account, a default message will be provided for them to tweet. This message includes the product name, a Twitter hashtag (if provided), and a shortened product URL. The product URL is shortened automatically using Twitter's URL shortener, t.co. Learn more about Twitter hashtags.
While this default message is provided to customers to make sharing product information quick and easy to do, customers may choose to modify the message. Please be aware that even when a hashtag is provided, it doesn't guarantee that all customers will include the hashtag in their tweets. Because of this, you may not be able to track all tweets about a product by searching for the product name or your hashtag on Twitter.
See the Social Media Sharing CSS reference for information about the IDs, adding CSS to the css-edits file, and to download the default CSS styles.
Should you wish to disable the Social Media Sharing module on individual product pages, you may do so by creating a variable override on these pages for the Social-enable variable.
