Important: All FTP sessions require an FTPS connection along with TLS 1.2 protocol support for increased system security.
Replace the file - Using the replace option means that when you upload a new version of a file, the previous version will be completely overridden. To replace the existing file, your new file must have the exact same name, including the file extension.
Tip: Your FTP client will generally ask if you want to overwrite the current file. Choose Yes or OK to update the file in your account.
Edit online - Many FTP clients also include an Edit feature that allows you to edit a file and save your changes. Generally, these tools work by saving a temporary copy of the file to your own computer, then opening the file with another program that you specify. When you're finished editing the file, the tool saves the edited version in your hosting account.
Note: This process involves a lot of file transferring; it can take a while even on computers with fast Internet connections. For efficiency, and because we encourage all users to keep copies of their website files on their own computers as backups, we recommend replacing out-of-date files rather than editing with your FTP client.
