A subdomain is a useful way to create a memorable web address or send your site visitors to a specific area of your website. Subdomains are available only in Web Hosting, Merchant Solutions, and WordPress hosting plans.
Create simpler web addresses
You could create a subdomain called info.your-site-here.net, for example, and point this subdomain to a directory called www.your-site-here.net/information. Rather than telling your readers to visit your information pages at the longer, harder-to-remember web address, then, you could publicize the simpler subdomain info.your-site-here.net. Both info.your-site-here.net and www.your-site-here.net/information will send your readers to the same page.
Combine with domain forwarding
Subdomains are also an elegant way to manage a stand-alone domain name. If you have a Domains or Business Mail plan, you can combine the domain forwarding feature available in those plans with subdomains in your Web Hosting, Merchant Solutions, or WordPress hosting plan to direct your visitors to your Turbify-hosted website.
For example, you might have purchased an additional domain for a Turbify website you created, and set up forwarding so that domain, www.your-site-here.net, points to the homepage of the site, at www.yourotherdomain.com. With a subdomain, you can redirect users to areas of your site other than your homepage. You could create the subdomain info.your-site-here.net, for example, that forwards users to a subdirectory of your site, such as www.yourotherdomain.com/information.
Personalize
You can even use a subdomain to personalize areas of your website for your friends or colleagues. You might have created a directory of your site, www.your-site-here.net/eric, for your friend Eric, for example. To further personalize Eric's space, you might create a subdomain--eric.your-site-here.net, for example--for that subdirectory. Eric will be able to tell his readers to visit his pages at either www.your-site-here.net/eric or eric.your-site-here.net.
Important: Please note that you can point a subdomain only to a Turbify-hosted website. Currently, subdomains may reference only a main directory (www.your-site-here.net) or a subdirectory one level down (www.your-site-here.net/subdirectory1). You cannot point a subdomain to a subdirectory within a subdirectory (www.your-site-here.net/subdirectory1/subdirectory2).
Learn how to create a subdomain.
If you have a Merchant Solutions plan, you will be unable to create a subdomain on the merchant side of your account. In addition, you will be unable to create a subdomain on the Web Hosting side of your account and set up a proper 301 redirect.
