Subdomains forward visitors to specific directories (folders) of your website. Subdomains can only be created on Web Hosting, Merchant Solutions, and WordPress hosting plans.
Domains, Website Builder, and Business Email plan owners: Your plan does not include subdomains, but you can use domain forwarding to redirect visitors to another website. Learn how to set up domain forwarding.
Add your subdomain
- Sign into your My Services page.
- Click the Web Hosting link.
- Click the Domains link in the Domains module.
- From the Domains interface, click the Create a New Domain button.
- Enter your desired subdomain in the Domain field. For example, newsite.your-site-here.net.
- Update the content of the home/public_html/ field to specify where you want the subdomain to resolve within your File Manager.
- If you wish for the subdomain to resolve at the root domain (for example, newsite.your-site-here.net would load the content at your-site-here.net), remove the contents of the home/public_html/ field and leave it blank.
- If you want the subdomain to load something else, replace the contents of the home/public_html/ field with the directory where you want the files for the domain to exist (the domain’s document root). Please note that you cannot create a document root outside of the public_html/ directory. Learn more.
- Click Submit if you are done adding subdomains or the Submit And Create Another button to make another one.
Note: If you have a Merchant Solutions plan, you will be unable to create a subdomain on the merchant side of your account. In addition, you will be unable to create a subdomain on the Web Hosting side of your account and set up a proper 301 redirect.
