The Categories for category drop-down feature in the Site Search Settings tool allows you to specify categories to include in the search bar drop-down list. Multiple category IDs entered into this field must be separated by commas (e.g. category1,category2,category3,category4). Note: Item pages and sections whose parent pages are not linked to index will not work.
Category IDs can be found in both Catalog Manager and Store Editor. Please note that you must enter valid category IDs that already exist into the "Categories for category drop-down" field.
In Catalog Manager, the category ID is listed in the ID column of a table. Please note that you must copy IDs for categories only, and not IDs for items in your store.
Locate a category ID in Store Editor
- Sign in to your My Services page.
- Click the Store link.
- Go to Store Editor.
- Navigate to a category page (also known as a section page).
- From the Advanced Editor toolbar, click the Edit button.
- The information that appears beside ID in the Edit object properties section of the page is the category ID for this category.
Note: In order to be specified as a category to include in the category drop-down, the section page must meet the following requirements:
- Page is not index.
- Page is not nil.
- Page is not a leaf.
- Parent page is not nil and is index.
Once you've entered category IDs into the Categories for category drop-down field in the Site Search Settings tool, you must ensure that the Include category drop-down option is also enabled and publish your site search settings.
After the Include category drop-down option is enabled for your store and categories have been specified to include in this list, the search bar drop-down list will allow shoppers to search within the categories of your store that you have specified.
