A 301 redirect is permanent according to the Internet standards code. This means that the requested URL is designated by the server as permanently moved, as opposed to found - temporarily moved (a 302 redirect). You can edit or delete 301 redirects at any time. The setting itself is not permanent.
Using a 301 redirect instead of a 302 redirect to direct traffic from a previous page URL (or Old Page URL) to a new location (New Page URL) can help retain a site page's search engine ranking when the URL of a page changes.
cPanel customers can create 301 or 302 redirects using the Redirects tool. Click here to Learn More.
Merchant Solutions and Store v.1 customers can set up 301 redirects via the Page Redirect Manager and Domain Names page.
Stores and Website Builder plans do not have built-in functionality to create 301 redirects.
