You don't have to be a photographer or graphic artist to find great images. To project a professional business image, you need to make sure all of your images look professional!
- Be sure to use clear, attractive, and relevant images. A picture of your dog may be cute, but it doesn't belong on the page highlighting your new line of jewelry (save personal photos for your About page or personal web site).
- If you're selling products, vivid pictures are essential: Visitors who examine your products online want to know what they can expect, whether they're going to buy through your site or visit your storefront later.
- Try to include one or more photographs of your product along with your written description. You can photograph your items yourself, or request images from the product manufacturer--just be sure the images represent your product, not a similar item.
- If possible, show your item from multiple angles, with close-ups of any key details, such as the artist's signature on a painting, or the label on a designer handbag. Indicate the scale of the item whenever appropriate.
- If you're photographing your items yourself, place them in front of a plain background, such as a drop cloth or colored fabric, and be sure to light them well (try not to use a flash, which can create unwanted glare on your product).
- Most important, be sure your photos are clear, professional, and large enough to be viewed easily.
If needed, you can fix up your images with an image editor. Save your photo in one of the following web-safe formats: GIF, JPG, or PNG.
