Take a screenshot

Learn how to take a screenshot of your desktop.

In Windows

  1. Press the Print Screen key.
  2. Open Microsoft Paint.
    • Click the Windows Start button | All Programs | AccessoriesPaint.
  3. Press Ctrl + V.
    Note: If an image in the clipboard is larger than the bitmap prompt appears, click Yes.
  4. Press Ctrl + S.
    - A Save As window appears
  5. Enter a description of the image in the File Name field.
  6. Click Save.
    - The file will be saved to your chosen folder.

In Mac OS X

  1. Press Command + Shift + 3.
    - A new file named Screen_Shot<date>.png will be created on your desktop.

iPhone without a Home button

  1. Press the Side button and the Volume Up button at the same time.
    - On iOS 11 and later, a thumbnail of the screenshot will automatically be sent to the bottom left of your screen. Tap the thumbnail to edit and save the screenshot to your Camera Roll.
  2. Confirm the screenshot was successful:
    • Tap Photos.
    • Tap Camera Roll.
      - Your screenshot should appear in the list.

iPhone with a Home button

  1. Press and hold the Home button and Sleep button at the same time.
    - On iOS 11 and later, a thumbnail of the screenshot will automatically be sent to the bottom left of your screen. Tap the thumbnail to edit and save the screenshot to your Camera Roll
  2. Confirm the screenshot was successful:
    • Press the Home button.
    • Tap Photos.
    • Tap Camera Roll.
      - Your screenshot should appear in the list.

In Android

  1. Press and hold the power button and volume down button for about 1 second.
    - An animation displays, indicating that the screenshot was saved.
  2. Check that the screenshot was successfully saved:
    • Press the Home button.
    • Tap Apps.
    • Tap Gallery.
      - A saved screenshot will be available in the gallery.

Other Android versions

Depending which Android version you have, capture a screenshot with one of these actions:

  • Press and hold the Home button and sleep button for about 1 second.
  • Press and hold the Home button and volume down button for about 1 second.
  • Press and hold the Home button and power button for about 1 second.
  • Swipe left across your device's screen.
