All websites that collect visitor or customer data are required to have a Privacy Policy page in your website at all times that outlines what information is collected, how it is collected and what it is used for. For Turbify hosted stores, this page has to be created and approved before your store is open for business.
For all Yahoo Commerce Central apps that provide advertising campaigns, or visitor retargeting/remarketing services, the Privacy Policy is required even if your website is not an online store.
Under the Turbify Merchant Solutions Terms of Service, merchants agree:
... to post a privacy policy in its Merchant Store that, at a minimum, discloses any and all uses of personal information collected from users by Merchant.
Each privacy policy should be specific to the web site or merchant who creates it. Only you, the merchant, can say whether your privacy policy accurately describes your use of personal information collected from your users. There are different ways to draft a privacy policy depending on what information you collect and how you use that information.
Please take a look at our Online Privacy Links for some third-party services that may be helpful to you as you draft or update your privacy policy.
FAQ
Can I use a privacy notice I find on another site?
- Privacy notices are unique since they depend on the data practices of the website as well as the local laws or other rules that may apply so you can’t just cut and paste someone else’s.
- Privacy notices should be available in the footer of every page of your website, and the relevant part of the site privacy notice related to targeted advertising cookies look something like this:
- "Our website uses cookies, tracking pixels and related technologies. Cookies are small data files that are served by our platform and stored on your device. Our site uses cookies dropped by us or third parties for a variety of purposes including to operate and personalize the website. Also, cookies may also be used to track how you use the site to target ads to you on other websites."
What do I need to include in my privacy notice?
- Your notice should describe how you collect, use, share and protect data that you collect. More specifically, since some of our advertising partners are members of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI), an advertising self regulatory organization, your privacy policy has to include the following information to work with us:
- That by visiting your site third parties may place cookies on users’ browsers for targeted advertising purposes.
- A description of the types of data (for example, IP addresses, cookie identifiers, website activity) that are collected for targeted advertising.
- That this data may be used by third parties to target advertising on other sites based on your users’ online activity.
- Instructions on how users can opt out of receiving targeted advertising.
- For example, a link to the DAA opt-out site http://www.aboutads.info or the NAI opt-out site at http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/, or for those in Europe, the EDAA opt out site at http://www.youronlinechoices.eu
Does my site need a privacy notice?
- Yes, as part of our Terms of Service we need you to have a notice that describes how data is collected and used on your website, especially around cookies and other tracking technologies since they are required to run your various Yahoo Commerce Central ad campaigns. By using our services, your website drops third party cookies for advertising purposes on your visitors’ browsers. Because of this, you are required to give notice about your data practices related to this activity to comply with the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) Self Regulatory Program. This program is enforced by the Better Business Bureau and the US Federal Trade Commission. Learn more at the DAA website at www.aboutads.info
Where does my privacy notice go?
- The link to your site’s privacy notice should be clearly visible on all pages, preferably in the footer section, where you’re collecting personal information and any other tracking technology, not just your homepage.
