Checkout & Registration Manager includes the ability to override flow settings for special products such as downloadable goods, gift certificates, and no-cost goods. In Catalog Manager and Store Editor, these overrides are controlled by three variables:
- Need-ship
- Need-bill
- Need-payment
These fields turn off the collection of the shipping address, billing address, and payment information respectively when the shopping cart contains one item or multiple items with the same setting (such as three downloadable goods). In Checkout & Registration Manager, these controls are accessible from the Advanced Settings tab.
Change your special order handling variables
- Sign in to your My Services page.
- Click the Store link.
- Go to Checkout & Registration Manager.
- Go to Advanced Settings.
- Under Special Handling, select special order handling options:
- Downloadable Goods - Select Enable Shipping Address Collection if you want to collect the shipping address when a buyer purchases a downloadable good. Note: Buyers may be confused as to why you need to collect a shipping address for a downloadable good and this may increase shopping cart abandonment. You may wish to include an explanatory note as to why you need this info such as sending a disk if the download fails.
- Gift Certificates - Select Enable Shipping Address Collection if you want to collect the shipping address when a buyer purchases a gift certificate. Note: Buyers may be confused as to why you need to collect a shipping address for a gift certificate that is delivered as an email to the recipient and this may increase shopping cart abandonment. You may wish to include an explanatory note as to why you need this info such as you send a card to the recipient with the gift certificate number in addition to the email.
- No Cost Goods - Select Enable Billing Address Collection if you want to collect a billing address when a buyer orders a no cost good. Note: Buyers may be confused as to why you need to collect a billing address for a no cost good and this may increase shopping cart abandonment. You may wish to include an explanatory note as to why you need this info. See exceptions referenced in the note below.
- Click the Save button.
- Return to Store Manager and publish your Order Settings.
Note: The ability to enable or disable the Billing Address section has the following
exceptions based on payment method, order total, or other variable settings:
- Enable Billing Address will display the Billing Address section unless PayPal is the sole payment method (address information comes from PayPal).
- Disable Billing Address will hide the Billing Address section unless either of the following conditions apply:
- The total of an order is greater than zero.
- If any items in an order have the Need-bill variable set to Yes.
