Redirecting is a way to ensure that visitors get to the prefered domain name for your website when you have multiple domain names that you use.

Here's an example. You have two domains, widgetdesigns.com and widgetdesigns.net. If you want people to visit widgetdesigns.com, a redirect would help. With a redirect on widgetdesigns.net, people visiting that site in their browser will be taken to the site at widgetdesigns.com.

Turbify offers two types of domain redirects for Domains, Business Mail, and Web Hosting customers. Both types of redirects tell the browser to redirect to the destination web address, which your visitors will see. What type you select will tell the browser and search engines information about how long the redirect is intended to last.

The types are:

• Permanent (301) Redirect - Using a permanent (301) redirect tells browsers and search engines "Go to the destination address going forward." Browsers will update caches to match the destination. Search engines will update web page indexing to stop looking for the old page. This is best used when the destination address is the one you always want your customers to go to. Learn more.
• Temporary (302) Redirect - Using a temporary (302) redirect tells browsers and search engines "Keep checking back. I will return." They will continue to load the original address to see if the redirect is still happening. This is best used when the destination may change, or the redirect may get turned off in the future.

Note: Advanced users may also take advantage of advanced DNS settings (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, and SRV records and name servers).
