Verifying a store with Pinterest

Learn how to claim your site with Pinterest.

In order to verify--or claim--your site with Pinterest, it is required that a certain file be uploaded to your site's root. Since Store Editor doesn't have a direct upload option, you can create the file in the Contents page.

Download the Pinterest verification file

  1. Sign in to your Pinterest account.
  2. Click the icon on the top right then go to Edit Settings.

  3. Click the Claim Website link.

  4. In the Claim Website section, enter your domain name in the available field then click the Claim website button.

  5. In the Pick claim option dialog:
    • Select the radio button next to Upload HTML file.
    • Click the Download button. The file will be downloaded to your computer.

  6. Click the Next button.

  7. In the Submit for review dialog, click the Submit button.

  8. Scroll down and click the Save settings button.

Add the verification file to your store

  1. Locate the HTML file on your computer and make a note of the HTML file name--pinterest-XXXXX.html--in a text editor such as NotePad or TextEdit.
  2. Sign in to your My Services page.
  3. Click the Store link.
    The Store link is under Control Panels.
  4. Go to Store Editor.
    The Store Editor link is under Edit.
  5. From the Advanced Editor toolbar, go to Contents.

  6. Click the New button.

  7. In the Create New Object dialog:
    • In the Id field, enter the Pinterest HTML file name minus the .html--pinterest-XXXXX.
    • Select raw-html. from the Type pulldown menu.
    • Click the Continue button.

  8. On the Edit page, click the Update button.

  9. Publish when ready.

Pinterest will send you an email within 24 hours to confirm that your site has been claimed. On the Pinterest settings page, there will be a checkmark highlighted in green next to your domain name to confirm the site has been claimed.

If you wish to unclaim your site, click the Unclaim website button.
