Do I need to create tax rules for gift wrap?

Depending on the state in which your business is registered, you may be required to collect tax on gift wrap when this option is selected for an order. Turbify does not have specific information regarding the tax rules you may need to set up for your store.

If you are unsure as to your state's requirements, contact your state's tax department. To locate your state tax department's web site, visit the Federation of Tax Administrators. Many states can offer advice to merchants around tax requirements.

How do I create tax rules for gift wrap?

If you've chosen to collect tax at checkout, gift wrap tax is applied by default to all orders that have selected the gift wrap option unless gift wrap tax rules are created.

Create gift wrap tax rules

  1. Sign in to your My Services page.
  2. Click the Store link.
    The Store link is under Control Panels.
  3. Go to Tax Rates.
    The Tax Rates link is under Order Settings.
  4. Click the Tax Setting edit link.
    On the Manage Taxes page, click the Tax Settings Edit link.
    Note: This link will not appear if your store is not open for business.
  5. Select Collect tax at checkout, then click specify gift wrap tax rules.
    Select Choose to collect tax at checkout, then click the specify gift wrap tax link.
  6. Select states for which gift wrap tax should be applied. To select more than one state, press the Ctrl key (Windows users) or Command key (Mac users) and click on the name of each state you wish to select. If you'd like gift wrap tax to be applied to all orders that include the gift wrap option, select All States.

  7. Click the Submit button.
    Click the Submit button.
  8. Click the Done button.
    Back on the Manage Taxes page, click the Done button.
  9. Return to Store Manager and publish your Order Settings.

How do I view gift wrap tax rules?

At this time, gift wrap tax rules will not appear in the tax rules table. To view the gift wrap tax rules in place for your store:

  1. Sign in to your My Services page.
  2. Click the Store link.
    The Store link is under Control Panels.
  3. Go to Tax Rates.
    The Tax Rates link is under Order Settings.
  4. Click the Tax Setting edit link.
    On the Manage Taxes page, click the Tax Settings Edit link.
  5. On the Tax Settings pop-up, click the specify gift wrap tax rules link.
    Click the specify gift wrap tax link.
  6. Review the list of selected states for which gift wrap tax rules apply.
    Review the list of selected states for which gift wrap tax should be applied.
