To get started with setting up your shipping rates and rules, click on the Shipping Rates link located in your Shipping Manager and click the Add Rule button. Merchants not open for business can also set up methods and rates using the Shipping Wizard.
There are 5 steps for creating a shipping rule:
- Selecting Location - You may wish to have a rule only apply to shipments to a certain location or area. To set this follow the steps below. You may limit what orders a rule will apply to by shipping address. These are the available fields and how to use them:
- Country - You can determine the countries to which a rule will apply by setting this to Inside or Outside of the countries you select. Or, simply set it to Anywhere to have it apply to all countries.
Note: To select more than one country at a time, Windows users should hold down the Control key. Macintosh users should hold down the Apple key. - State - If you don't want this rule to apply to all states, simply select the state to which this rule applies. Otherwise, you can leave it set to Any State. You can also select states using the location map. When using the location map, click on the specific state or check the box next to the region name to highlight several states at once.
- ZIP code - You can enter one ZIP code, one ZIP code prefix (e.g., 89 matches all ZIP codes starting with 89), or a range of ZIP codes (e.g., 89 4-896). You can only enter one ZIP code, one prefix, or one range per rule. If you need to enter more than one code or range or a combination, you will have to make separate rules for each code or range.
- Province - If you don't want this rule to apply to all Provinces, simply select the Province that you do want it to apply to. Otherwise you can leave it set to Any.
- Postal Code - You can enter one postal code, one postal code prefix, or you can enter a range of postal codes as with ZIP codes above. You can only enter one postal code, one prefix, or one range per rule. If you need to enter more than one of any or a combination, you will have to make separate rules.
- Shipping method - You can set this rate to apply to any shipping method or only one. For example, if you have three Shipping Methods and you want the charge to be $5 on 2 of them and $10 on the last, you have to set a separate rule for all three. If you are using official UPS Methods and want to calculate rates using UPS Real-time rates you will need to create a different Ship Rule for each official UPS Method you offer.
- Select Ship Rate - Please choose the type you would like to learn about:
- Rate Table - A shipping table can be based on the cost (before or after tax), number of items, weight, or number of shipments.
- Flat Rate - Adds a specified amount for matching address regions. This method can be used to add a dollar value per pound, per item, or per shipment.
- Percentage - Adds a percentage of the amount (before or after tax).
- UPS Real-Time Rates - Uses UPS shipping tables that are built-in to store. Merchants must register to use our integrated UPS functionality, and must add and select an official UPS Shipping Method to use UPS Real-Time Rates.
- Rate Details - The instructions for this are different depending on which type of rule you selected in the previous step. For more information, refer to the specific Ship Rate information in the previous step.
- Override - The last step is deciding whether or not you want this rule to be the ONLY rule that applies even if there are other rules that might match for a given location or method.
