The Shipping & Tax Test link in the Order Settings column of Store Manager and in your Shipping Manager is useful when testing out various scenarios of the ordering process. For example, you may want to use this link after creating new tax rates or shipping rules to see that they correctly apply to orders.
You can enter order information, such as price, ship-weight, and ZIP code of the shipping location. Then click on the Calculate button to see how your shipping and tax rules would apply. The Shipping & Tax Test uses the published rules from your Shipping Manager.
Access the Shipping & Tax Test
- Sign in to your My Services page.
- Click the Store link.
- Go to Shipping & Tax Test.
The Shipping & Tax Test contains default values for all its fields, which helps you tell immediately whether your rules are working.
When you change any of the inputs (for example, increasing the Taxable Amount field or changing the Shipping Method field), then click Calculate, the page refreshes with the new shipping and/or tax charges or error message displayed in the Results section. If you want more information about how the tool arrived at a particular result, click Details to go to a page displaying all the inputs along with the rule used to generate the result.
Calculate shipping for official UPS methods using UPS rates
When shipping orders using official UPS methods, merchants should note that UPS rates can vary depending on whether the destination address is a commercial or residential address. For an accurate UPS rate calculation when performing a Shipping & Tax Test, you must complete the Address Line 1 field. UPS will determine whether commercial or residential shipping rates apply, based on the information supplied in this field. If this field is left blank, or if an inaccurate address is entered into this field, the rates show during the Shipping & Tax Test may be different from the rates shown in checkout.
Merchants using real-time shipping
Merchants using real-time shipping should note that the tax and shipping test is performed using the following keys:
- ship-zip
- ship-state
- ship-country
- ship-city
- shipping
Other keys included in your real-time script will not be tested. Your scripts should be designed to extract required information, and only return errors for required keys when information is not available, or is invalid. Software on the receiving end should be set up to ignore unrecognized keys.
